Edible(sort of) Bouquets

Has your lettuce bolted but it still looks pretty? Is it getting tall and shading your cabbages? Do you feel bad about wasting what was a perfectly delicious food a few weeks ago? Do not despair! Pull it up, cut away the roots, remove the lower leaves, put it in a vase and you've got something pretty.
This principle works with anything that bolts, like say, fennel.
I don't know how long these will last but it's cheaper than buying flowers. I'm going to a barbeque today. Perhaps I'll bring a bouquet. Is that what a patriotic American would do on the 4th of July? I think Thomas Jefferson might approve.
No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden.

I did surveys in a bunch of states coast to coast. Nothing outside of the U.S.A. I was in college when I started working on digs. I just kept working instead of going back to college.

I had zero background and worked over a period of 15 years on and off. I could get some work doing it now as I have a few friends and my resume is pretty good based on massive experience.

It was mostly gov't funded work for highways, pipelines, powerlines, sewage facilities etc.... Not great money but lots of travel and work in remote locations as well as urban and suburban environments.

It taught me to look for things, especially small things and to think about the way that people live/d.
