No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden.

Edible(sort of) Bouquets
Has your lettuce bolted but it still looks pretty? Is it getting tall and shading your cabbages? Do you feel bad about wasting what was a perfectly delicious food a few weeks ago? Do not despair! Pull it up, cut away the roots, remove the lower leaves, put it in a vase and you've got something pretty. This principle works with anything that bolts, like say, fennel.I don't know how long these will last but it's cheaper than buying flowers. I'm going to a barbeque today. Perhaps I'll bring a bouquet. Is that what a patriotic American would do on the 4th of July? I think Thomas Jefferson might approve.
